MPLS routers operate on the principle of label switching, a departure from traditional IP routing. They assign short labels to data packets, replacing complex routing table lookups. These labels indicate the packet's path through the network. MPLS routers process packets based on these labels, significantly accelerating forward. By establishing dedicated paths (Label Switched Paths or LSPs), MPLS optimises data flow and resource utilisation.
